The GIGABYTE Z790 UD AX motherboard supports 13th and 12th Generation Intel Core, Pentium Gold, and Celeron processors with an LGA1700 socket. It has an Intel Z790 Express Chipset and features a Realtek Audio CODEC with High Definition Audio that supports 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel audio and S/PDIF Out.

The motherboard has several expansion slots, including a PCI Express x16 slot running at x16 (PCIEX16) with PCIe 5.0 support for optimum graphics card performance. It also has a PCI Express x16 slot running at x4 (PCIEX4) with PCIe 4.0 support, a PCI Express x16 slot running at x1 (PCIEX1_4) with PCIe 3.0 support, and two PCI Express x1 slots running at x1 (PCIEX1_2, PCIEX1_3), both with PCIe 3.0 support. The motherboard also supports AMD CrossFire technology.

The GIGABYTE Z790 UD AX motherboard has four DIMM sockets that support DDR5 memory modules with a dual-channel memory architecture. It supports a maximum of 128GB (32 GB single DIMM capacity) of memory, and the memory modules can have speeds of up to 7600(O.C.) /7400(O.C.) /7200(O.C.) /7000(O.C.) /6800(O.C.) /6600(O.C.) / 6400(O.C.) / 6200(O.C.) / 6000(O.C.) / 5800(O.C.) / 5600(O.C.) / 5400(O.C.) / 5200(O.C.) / 4800 / 4000.

The motherboard has an integrated graphics processor-Intel HD Graphics support with an HDMI port that supports a maximum resolution of 4096x2160@60 Hz and a DisplayPort that supports a maximum resolution of 4096x2304@60 Hz.

The GIGABYTE Z790 UD AX motherboard has several ports and connectors, including a Realtek 2.5GbE LAN chip for LAN connectivity, an AMD Wi-Fi 6E RZ616 (MT7922A22M) module for wireless communication, a USB Type-C port with USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 support, a USB Type-C port with USB 3.2 Gen 1 support, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, six USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, eight USB 2.0/1.1 ports, and six SATA 6Gb/s connectors.
